Next 'Friends' Talk: Visco on Fuel Cells

Materials Scientist Steve Visco will be talking about ways research is moving "Toward a Commercially Viable Fuel Cell" in the next Friends of Science lecture next Thursday, April 10. Lab employees are invited to the presentation at 5:30 p.m. in Perseverance Hall. Visco will discuss the development of a solid oxide fuel cell that promises to generate electricity as cheaply as the most efficient gas turbine – an innovation that paves the way for pollution-free power generators that serve neighborhoods and industrial sites. For reservations, call 7292, or send a message here.

On-Line Abstract
Submission Available

Image of file transfer
The Lab has contracted with The Conference Exchange, an online Abstract Management Service, to provide employees with a fast and user friendly way to submit and manage abstracts via the web. The service allows for online abstract submission, review and scheduling, email and postal notifications of authors, and data entry from hard copy submissions. Abstracts are converted into an electronic "book" with author and title indexes, which can then be downloaded, edited, and printed. Get more information on Conference Exchange here.

For cost and procedures for submitting abstracts, contact Julie McCullough at X6491, [email protected].

U.S. University Agencies
Back DOE Science Funds

Nils Hasselmo, President of the Association of American Universities, called for $300 million more in the FY04 Department of Energy science budget in testimony before the Congressional Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development in Washington. Speaking on behalf of the AAU, the American Council on Education, and the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, he called the Office of Science "a unique and critical science agency for universities."
