As part of the Environmental Energy Technologies Division’s Distinguished Lecturers Series, venture capitalist Vinod Khosla will present a talk on “Extrapolate the Past…Or Invent the Future” today at 12:30 p.m. in the Building 50 Auditorium. Khosla is the founder of Khosla Ventures, was a co-founder of Daisy Systems, and founding Chief Executive Officer of Sun Microsystems where he pioneered open systems and commercial RISC processors. cairnsIn The News: Researcher Featured on ABC’s ‘7 on Your Side’

Elton Cairns, with Berkeley Lab’s Environmental Energy Technologies Division, was featured on a recent segment of a local ABC news segment called “7 on Your Side.” The story looks at consumers who have experienced exploding batteries in their home electronics, and Cairns discusses why this may happen. burgerRunaround: BBQ Lunch on Day of Race for all Employees

Runaround participants, or those who just want to grab some lunch, can enjoy a barbecue lunch on the cafeteria lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Friday. Cost is $6 per person. The menu includes meat and vegetarian burgers, hot dog, or chicken breast sandwich, chips or fruit, and beverage. Tickets can be purchased in advance at cafeteria cash registers starting on Wednesday.


lockCyber Security: Web Servers Must Register to be Internet Accessible

Those who oversee a web server that needs to be accessible from the Internet must register their server before Tuesday, Nov. 4. Starting on that date, only registered web servers will be accessible from the Internet. Go here to register, and here for more information.
