Among this year's 67 recipients of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) is Rachel Segalman, with Berkeley Lab’s Materials Sciences Division. The awards are the nation's highest honor given by the White House to researchers at the outset of their professional scientific careers. Segalman studies self-assembly of functional polymer systems.
While the media frenzy around Director Chu’s selection as the nominee for Energy Secretary has died down a bit since last Monday’s announcement, news outlets continue to praise Obama’s selection. Editorials have since run in the Washington Post, New York Times, and the Boston Globe, and in a story on CNN, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman lauds Chu's nomination.
