Special Event:  Youngster Visits Lab as Part of 'Make-A-Wish' Request

Leukemia sufferer David Godfrey has a head full of ideas about how to green the planet; concepts he wanted to bounce off of experts in the field. He was able to do just that on Monday. Courtesy of the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation, the 13-year-old met with Berkeley Lab researchers, including Paul Alivisatos, Uli Dahmen, Arun Majumdar, and Steve Selkowitz. “We want to do everything we can to encourage his inventiveness,” said Steve Chu, who met with David one-on-one. “After all, this is where the wild new things come from.” Go here for a Mercury News story on David’s visit.

tablRunaround: Initial Meeting for Volunteers on Tuesday, Sept. 2

While the Lab’s annual Runaround fun race isn’t until October, organizers are starting to plan now. The success of the event, which will celebrate its 31st  anniversary this year, relies on staff volunteers, who help with entertainment, timekeeping, t-shirt distribution, decorations, and numerous other tasks. A meeting for those interested in assisting will be held at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 2 in Perseverance Hall.
