Special Event: Retirement Party for David McGraw on Monday

After 17 years of service with the Lab, Chief Operating Officer David McGraw is retiring. To honor his tenure, a party will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Science News: Cell Blade is the Top Code Booster

The rush toward multicore processors in supercomputing and even in consumer electronics comes at the expense of the best available software. Samuel Williams and his colleagues in the Computational Research Division and NERSC used a powerful code that models magnetohydrodynamic turbulence to check out five multicores and found just one, the Cell Blade, that outperformed them all. Shuttle Bus: New Downtown Bus Stop at Allston/Shattuck

The Lab shuttle bus stop in downtown Berkeley has been moved from Center and Shattuck to a stop one block south, at Allston Way and Shattuck. This stop will be in use for up to two years to accommodate construction on Center between Shattuck and Milvia.


Clarification: Submit Requests for Free Excess Pick-Up Starting Monday – July 3

Requests for the free pick-up of excess items will be accepted starting on Monday and continuing through Thursday, July 13. Pick-ups will be scheduled based on the order requests are received, and may take three to four weeks to occur. Visit the Employee News page to see the original announcement of this offer.


New Websites: Tips on Navigation, Submissions, Archives

The Public Affairs Office thanks the Lab community for their patience during the transition to new websites and Today at Berkeley Lab e-mail. Here are some tips on the new structure: TABL is now e-mail only — all science articles that appear in TABL are archived in the News Center, and all administrative stories on the Employee News site; to access TABL issues prior to June 10, click the “Archives” tab in the News Center; send e-mail to [email protected] to submit announcements; the News Center is accessible from the homepage, and Employee News has a prominent link on the News Center site.


Benefits Event: Fidelity Retirement Workshop on Monday

Fidelity Retirement Services representative Joseph Hager will present a workshop on “Achieving a Sound Retirement” on Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Building 50 Auditorium.


Guest, Foreign National Processing: Website Updated to Improve Use, Information

The Lab's Guest Processing website has been revamped and includes updated information on processing guests and foreign nationals. Also, the Participating Guest Information form (PGIF) on the website has been revised. Briefings on these updates will be held this Tuesday (10 to 11 a.m.) and Monday, June 30, (1 to 2 p.m.) in Perseverance Hall. Contact your HR Center for questions about guests, and Ben Ortega (x6326) for foreign nationals.
