EETD Lecture Tomorrow on Green Architecture

EETD

The next Environmental Energy Technologies Division Distinguished Lecture takes place tomorrow at noon in the Building 50 Auditorium. The featured speaker is Joseph Lstiburek of the Building Science Corporation, whose talk is entitled "Don't Do Stupid Things — Green Architecture, Engineering and Construction." "A great deal of green architecture does not work and the failures are not discussed because failures dealing with green don't fit into the environmentalist template of green being easy and cost-effective,” says Lstiburek.

Runaround

Dust off your sneakers and get ready for the 33rd Runaround on Friday, Oct. 8. Runners and walkers should meet outside the Firehouse at noon. Finishers will receive a custom Runaround t-shirt. The informal Bikearound will start at the Firehouse at 11:30 a.m.

Roadways near these lots will also be blocked.

Early Career Research ProgramDOE Update: Full Proposals for Early Career Research Program Now Accepted

The DOE Office of Science is now accepting full proposals from Berkeley Lab employees who pre-applied to the 2011 Early Career Research Program. Applicants who received a notice of encouragement need to contact their division point of contact (POC) right away to ensure a timely submission. Only individuals who have received notification from DOE encouraging a formal application may submit full proposals. Faculty who have been notified should apply through their home campus. The Early Career Research Program supports the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and stimulates research careers in the disciplines supported by the DOE Office of Science. IT: Voice Mail Down From 6 to 7 a.m. Tomorrow Morning

The Lab's voice mail system servers will be offline from about 6 to 7 a.m. tomorrow to install security updates. Voice mail will be unavailable during this time. Service will be restored as quickly as possible. For questions, contact Telephone Services (x7997).

EH&S: Safety-Related Systems Down Tomorrow Evening

Due to a recently identified Microsoft security vulnerability, maintenance on several EHS systems will result in outages tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. Users logged in to the following EHS systems during this outage will be logged off at that this time: AHD, Bio Authorization System, Course Builder, ERGO, HMS, JHA, and SJHA. Be sure to save all work and log out before 5 p.m. tomorrow to ensure no information or effort is lost.

OCFO: Training for Requisition Preparers Tomorrow

On Monday, Oct. 11, a new process for creating ePro requisitions will launch. This new, streamlined process will allow requisition preparers to enter data in a logical, intuitive sequence while providing them with online help. A demonstration of the new process will be held tomorrow from 9 to 11 a.m. in Perseverance Hall. Online training is also available. Current requisition preparers have until Jan. 11 to take the FSD0501 Course and pass its test in order to continue to create ePro requisitions. Go here for the latest changes to the requisition process. Contact Eileen Nasto for additional information.
