Lab Researchers Give 'Geek' Talks at Hall of Science

Biofuel

The Lawrence Hall of Science is hosting a series of fall science gatherings — called “Geek Out” — aimed at young adults. The series starts on Sept. 15 with a competition to build the best Rube Goldberg-type marble run. Next up is Berkeley Lab astrophysicist Alexie Leauthaud, who will discuss “Dark Energy: Finding Your Way in the Dark” on Oct. 20. Following the presentation, attendess can create their own artistic interpretation of dark energy. On Nov. 17, Advanced Light Source Director Roger Falcone will give a talk on “Light Speed: Ultrafun With the Ultrafast” that includes hands-on activities with prisms, refracting gratings, and lasers. The events cost $10 and include access to the museum’s exhibits, snacks, and a cash bar. More>

VolunteersSpecial Event: Share Your Talent, Knowledge, Time at Open House

The Lab will open its doors to the local community on Saturday, Oct. 2, for a day of fun-filled, science-related activities. Entertainment will be part of the program, with the cafeteria stage dedicated to performances by Lab employees. If you have a talent you’d like to share, be it singing, dancing, or a unique skill, send e-mail here. For those who would like to help out at the event in a more general way, sign up as a volunteer. Also, to help quench the scientific curiosity of visitors that day, Lab researchers are invited to staff the “Ask a Scientist” table. More details on the Open House are available here.
