Lab Participates in Local Job Fair


[ABC-Channel 7] If you're looking for work, and so many are, there is an opportunity you should know about. On Tuesday, there was a big job fair in Emeryville sponsored by ABC 7 and the California Job Journal. Berkeley Lab is hiring and one doesn't need to be a scientist to apply. The open positions cut across all aspects of the lab's many functions. "We have 160 job opportunities available here at the Lab; everything from scientists, to maintenance supervisors, to IT specialists," says Dan Krotz of the Public Affairs Office. More>

VolunteersResearch: Energy Topic of Next Chapter on ACS Presentations

Berkeley Lab scientists delivered nearly 100 presentations at the American Chemical Society’s Fall 2010 national meeting in Boston last week. Major areas of emphasis included chemistry for applications in medicine, energy, the environment and more. Today at Berkeley Lab is highlighting some of these talks. Today the topic is energy. Featured presenters included Marca Doeff, Ali Javey, and Lab Director Paul Alivisatos. More>

Special Event : Foundry's Lecture Series Starts Next Tuesday

GravityThe Molecular Foundry's fall Distinguished Lectures series begins next Tuesday, Sept. 7, with Alice Ting of MIT. Her talk — "Molecular Engineering of Fluorescent Reporters for Cellular Imaging and Applications to Neuroscience" — takes place at 1:30 p.m. in the Building 66 Auditorium. She will describe the engineering of fluorophore ligases for site-specific protein labeling in cells and protein-protein interaction detection, as well as the application of these reporter technologies to study the trans-synaptic neurexin-neuroligin interaction and its role in promoting synapse maturation.

Facilities: Event Rentals Now Provided by Outside Vendor

VolunteersStarting today, Western Event Services will provide all table, chair, and tent/canopy rentals for Lab events. The Facilities Division's Transportation Department will no longer provide this service. Western also offers barbecue grills, linens, poster boards, and many other items. GravityWellness: September is Healthy Aging Month

The Lab’s Health Care Facilitator reminds employees that September is Healthy Aging Month. As people grow older, it is important to keep physically active. Regular exercise is more important for seniors than other age groups because the risk of disease and lost mobility is greater and the positive effects are realized more quickly. The hardest part is getting started. Choose an exercise you like and stick with it. Exercise with a friend to stay motivated. More>
