One of the companies announced a new manufacturing facility that will create hundreds of jobs around the country and bring energy-savings technologies to a wider market. More>
Monday's power outage — which started shortly after 10 a.m. and lasted until about 11:50 a.m. — was caused by the opening of a main breaker, located at the Grizzly Peak Substation, that connects the Lab's electrical system with UC Berkeley's. The breaker opened in response to a short circuit in a panel-mounted indicator light.

The loud, eerie moans of crunching metal echoing through the hills of the Lab are emanating from the Bevatron site. After months of disassembling the guts of the structure, work has begun removing the framing, using several large excavators with shearing attachments. The demolition will continue for the next four to six weeks. Most of the materials will be recycled.
Starting Monday, Oct. 18, the Lab Café will introduce a new menu and format, including custom egg sandwiches, chicken wings, fish tacos, a make-your-own sandwich bar, bread bowls with soup, dim sum, and combo deals with fountain soda. Unfortunately, due to rising food and supply costs, a slight price increase in the cafeteria and coffee bar will be implemented. Also, the mug-refill policy will change. The $1 refill charge will apply to containers sized 16 ounces or less and refills must take place on the same day, with receipt shown as proof of purchase.
