World Trade Center Survivor Talk on Thursday

World Trade Center Survivor

Michael Hingson, who survived the World Trade Center attack on 9/11 along with his guide dog Roselle, will be the inaugural speaker of the Perspectives on Diversity lecture series on Thursday at noon in the Building 50 Auditorium. “Since that day, I’ve traveled the world with Roselle and her successors; at first to help people heal and hope, and now, to help them find meaning and purpose,” says Hingson. “As a blind person living in today’s world I want people to see that while there are many different kinds of people, each with their own different gifts, we all can live and work together if we choose to open our minds and hearts and become a more inclusive world.” The Lab’s Diversity Council is sponsoring the event.

Research: A Step Toward a National Smart Grid Standard

The OpenADR communications specification provides a common “language” for developers of technology for the Smart Grid. OpenADR allows building control systems to respond automatically to Internet-based signals that provide electricity grid prices and reliability messages. More>

The new platform replaces NERSC’s Opteron “Jacquard” cluster and IBM Power5 “Bassi” system, which were both decommissioned at the end of April.
