Morgan Freeman is executive producer, host, and narrator of the Science Channel series Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman, which tackles the mysteries of the universe in eight installments. “What Are We Really Made Of,” an episode on particle physics, screens tonight at 10:00 p.m. To discuss his work with atoms of antihydrogen (a positron orbiting an antiproton), the production company The Incubator videotaped Joel Fajans of the Accelerator and Fusion Research Division at CERN and at the Bevatron, where the antiproton was discovered. Special Event: Early Career Research Program Town Hall Meeting on Friday The Department of Energy’s Office of Science has announced the FY 2011 Early Career Research Program. The program supports the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers. It is anticipated that up to $10 million will be available for 15-35 awards in FY 2011. Mandatory pre-applications are due August 13. Director Paul Alivisatos will host an informational meeting on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Building 50 Auditorium. People: Public Affair's Miller Writes Series on Euroscience Forum in Italy Earlier this month, Berkeley Lab Public Affairs Head Jeff Miller attended the Euroscience Open Forum, and during his visit, wrote four stories on various topics discussed at the event. In “The (Green) Spirit of Ireland” he explores the issue behind a wind-energy-to-hydro-energy project on the Emerald Isle. Miller focuses on the importance of putting science where the people are in “The Allure of Public Science.” In “How Do You Feel About Science?” he looks at public attitudes and cultural views about science. Miller concludes his series with “Last Thoughts on Euroscience 2010.”
