Participants Sought for Internal Communications Focus Groups

As part of an effort to improve internal communications at the Lab, both within specific divisions and Lab-wide, the Public Affairs Department will conduct two focus groups, from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, and Friday June 5. Six to eight participants are needed for each group. Free lunch will be provided. Participants will be led in an open discussion of how they share and receive news and information and where improvements can be made. To be considered, e-mail your division name, job title/description, and number of years at the Lab. Feel free to add any comments you may have on internal communications at the Lab. Be sure to include “focus group” in the subject line. Staff from both science and operations areas are encouraged to apply. Selected participants will be notified by Tuesday.

IT: New Settings for Sending E-Mail From Offsite

email iconThe Lab has new outgoing e-mail settings. Those who send e-mail from offsite, such as home, on travel, or use the Lab’s wireless network, must change their e-mail client to use the settings specified here. Note that the Lab’s wireless network is considered offsite, so those who use a laptop on this network need to make this change as well. These settings work at the Lab and offsite. To avoid disruption in sending e-mail, changes must be made by Wednesday, June 17.

Shuttle Buses: New LCD Displays at Stops Predict Arrivals

nextbus LCDThe next phase of the Nextbus program — which provides approximate arrival times of the Lab’s shuttle buses — has been launched. Previously, arrival times were only available via phone call or online. Passengers will now also be able to check an LCD panel installed at key bus stops, including Buildings 65 and 54 (cafeteria) bus shelters, the lobby of Building 62, and near the bus turnaround in front of Building 90. The Nextbus feature has also been added to the Potter St./JBEI and Rockridge lines. Go here for more information on Nextbus.

IT: Interruption of Internet Connectivity This Evening

External network connectivity to the Lab will be interrupted between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. this evening due to network maintenance. IT services, such as e-mail, web, and calendar, will be impacted.

Construction: Smoot Road Lane Closure Tomorrow

A portion of the downhill lane of Smoot Road near the Bevatron (Building 51) will be closed tomorrow, from about 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to accommodate work in the Bevatron parking lot (B51). Flaggers will direct traffic. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to use caution when traversing this area and follow flagger instructions and posted signage.

appleSpecial Event: June 4 Fair Celebrates Wellness, Employee Activities

The annual "Summer Wellness Fair" and "Meet the Employee Activities Association Clubs" will take place on the cafeteria lawn on Thursday, June 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Among the fair’s booths are UC-sponsored health providers and financial institutions, the Lab's Health Services and Environment Health and Safety Ergonomics Team, and UC Berkeley's CARE Services and the Retirement Center. Visitors can also learn about the Lab's many activity clubs. A $6 BBQ lunch and free massages will be available.
