IMG Expert Review Goes Primetime

After a genome is sequenced and automatically annotated, researchers often manually review the predicted genes and their functions in order to improve accuracy and coverage across the vast genetic code of the particular target organism or community of organisms. Scientists at the Joint Genome Institute and Berkeley Lab's Biological Data Management and Technology Center have launched the Expert Review version of the Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) system to support and enhance the review and revision of annotations for both publicly available genome datasets and those newly released from private institutions. hazeIn The News: Summer Haze has Cooling Effect in Southeastern U.S.

[UC Berkeley NewsCenter] Global warming may include some periods of local cooling, according to a new study by researchers at UC Berkeley, including Allen Goldstein, with Berkeley Lab's Environmental Energy Technologies Division, and Inez Fung, with the Earth Sciences Division. Results from satellite and ground-based sensor data show that sweltering summers can, paradoxically, lead to the temporary formation of a cooling haze in the southeastern United States. More>
