Scientists estimate that people are not washing their hands often or well enough and may transmit up to 80 percent of all infections by their hands. From doorknobs to animals to food, harmful germs can live on almost everything. Hand washing may be the single most important act to help stop the spread of infection and stay healthy. In light of the potential for a fall resurgence of the H1N1 pandemic flu, the Center for Disease Control has created a short video reminding people about the ways they can help prevent the spread of infection. Have you ever wanted to check on an experiment or approve a requisition from your mobile phone? Do you have a great idea for how a mobile application could make life at Berkeley Lab better? If so, consider entering the IT Division's Mobility Competition, which launches Tuesday, Sept. 1, and runs through Dec. 1. Winners will receive cash awards of up to $2500 (pretax). Even those who don't write software can still participate by submitting ideas for mobile applications. The Berkeley Lab Learning Institute (BLI) is now offering expanded options for professional skill development. The online resource Skillsoft has expanded its features, including more than 20,000 online books and over 3,100 courses and skill briefs. There is a recommended curriculum for team leads and supervisors and for those interested in project management fundamentals. Users can also learn more about business writing, communications, career development, time management, and Microsoft Office, among other topics. EH&S: Two-Way Radio System Out of Service Two Hours This Evening The two-way Radio Trunked system, coordinated by Environmental Health and Safety's Security and Emergency Operations Group, will be out of service from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening. This shutdown is necessary due to critical relocation of equipment. All Lab two-way radios will not work during this period, and operators are asked to make necessary accommodations.
